Frequently Asked Questions
My mother needs help with errands and housekeeping, but she also likes to go to the beauty parlor once a week and other times out to lunch. I can't always take her; can you do this?
Yes! When it comes to caring for our clients, we consider needs beyond the physical self. We try to keep your loved one stimulated by engaging in pastimes and projects they enjoy. Our companions and certified nursing assistants can prepare meals, keep the home clean and orderly and run errands for you parent.
My mother needs to move to an assisted living facility. Can you help us find a good one?
Yes! We routinely help families locate a facility that is just right for their parent in terms of cost and appropriate "fit" for their personality. We know all the facilities in the DC Metropolitan Area; we visit them and we know how to guide a family in the admission process. We also help families with Medicaid placements in nursing homes.
How will I ensure that my father will get along well with the home health care provider you send to help him?
We realize that personalities must mesh in order to create a comfortable environment for your loved one. We can arrange an introductory meeting, where your loved one can get to know the aide a bit and determine if personal styles are a good match. Preference for male or female assistance can also be considered upon request.
My parents are resisting the reality that they need a geriatric care manager; how can you help?
We often encounter aging adults who resist accepting the fact that they need assistance. Often when an adult child suggests that their parent needs help it becomes an awkward situation. We know how to transition care and provide support for both the family and your loved one. Because we are outside the family, your loved one is more apt to consider that we can help with making life easier, while they still maintain a sense of pride and control.
Does Medicare or Medicaid cover any of the services either Family Management Services or In-Home Family Care, Inc. provides?
No. Unfortunately, Medicare or Medicaid do not pay for private duty care; however, some of our fees may be tax deductible as a medical expense (this is something you will need to discuss with your tax preparer), and some of our fees may be paid by Long Term Care Insurance Policies.
If I engage your services, will I become responsible for keeping track of employee taxes for the home health care provider working for me?
No. The home health care provider is considered an employee of our sister company, In-Home Family Care, Inc. Our clients are billed solely for hours and services we provide and bear no responsibility for employee, federal, or state taxes. Clients are billed at an hourly rate or on a flat fee basis (as agreed upon and prearranged in their service contract), only for the time spent to accomplish the work.
All of these personalized services sound expensive. Are they?
You will find that our rates are competitive and often less than other geriatric care managers or case management companies. We have a discount program for families that pay with a credit card. Many of our services are tax deductible as well. Frequently families find that we actually save them money in terms of regaining lost time off work and freeing up your time as a care giver for your family.
