Psychologist Cheryl A. Alston, M.A., started a company in 1986 to help families deal with the problems of aging parents, the challenges of a disabled or mentally ill family member, and the need for viable support for family care givers. After the ensuing transition to corporate status, Family Management Services, Inc. (FMS) now exists as both a Virginia and Maryland corporation with offices in Fairfax , VA and Bethesda , MD and serving the DC Metropolitan area.
Ms. Alston, an adult child of a senior parent and a parent herself, has been on the leading edge of what is now called "Geriatric Care Management." With over 25 years of experience in human services, she has organized a talented and compassionate staff of professionals who provide direct services to senior adults and adults with disabilities. FMS staff consists of a consulting Physician, a Psychologist, Case Managers, Registered Nurses, Accountants, Certified Nursing Assistants, and Homemaker Companions.
All staff is bonded, covered with professional liability insurance, checked out by criminal background searches and extensive reference inquiries, protected by workman's compensation insurance, and compensated by our company payroll service. We work cooperatively with attorneys, mental health professionals, physicians, hospital discharge planners, disability counselors, social workers, trust officers, certified public accountants, estate planners, and financial advisors. We also maintain a cadre of support contractors to provide home maintenance and repair, property dissolution, estate sale support, home cleaning, and lawn maintenance.
